Doug Rozendaal got his initial flight experience by flying freight in DC-3s and a Beech 18. He managed to stay grounded long enough to graduate from Iowa State University, but has since logged more than 10,000 hours in the air flying more than 150 different types of aircraft. As a certified warbird pilot, he flies P-51 Mustangs, Corsairs, PBY Catalinas, BT-13, T-6 and T-28 trainers, and B-25 bombers. He is also a flight instructor and FAA-designated pilot examiner.
Doug has been flying the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s P-51C Mustang since it originally took to the skies in 2001 after its first restoration. He led the Squadron’s efforts to restore the airplane again after the 2004 crash that destroyed it and took the life of Don Hinz, the Squadron’s leader.
Doug lives with his wife, Chris, in Clear Lake, Iowa, where he owns Petroblend Corp.
